YSU president’s home shot up; investigation under way

LIBERTY — Youngstown State University President Dr. David Sweet returned from out of town this weekend to find his township home riddled with bullet holes.

The remnants of five or more bullets and .22-caliber shell casings were found inside and outside the home, said George McCloud, Sweet’s special assistant for university enhancement.

“David and Pat Sweet were visiting family and they returned home late Friday, the 28th of December,” McCloud said. “Saturday morning, Dr. Sweet discovered a bullet hole in the upstairs front window and found the bullet in the crown molding.”

More bullet holes were found, in the den and outside the Fairlawn Drive home, McCloud said.

“He discovered two more in the first-floor den window, with a bullet lodged in the wall over the sofa,” McCloud added.

Two were found in the stone work outside the home.

Liberty and YSU police are conducting an investigation, McCloud said. Further information will be released as it becomes available.

Sweet came to YSU from Cleveland State University in 2000. He was not available for comment tonight.
