East Liverpool man’s
body found in Pa. pond

DARLINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Authorities found the body of a 23-year-old East Liverpool man in a pond where the man had fallen from a canoe.

The Pennsylvania State Police in Beaver County, said that the body of Brandon J. Davis was found in the pond about 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Davis had been hunting from the canoe on the pond along North State Line Road on Saturday when it capsized.

Another person saw Davis go into the water and went to a nearby home to call 911. avis drowned. Authorities searched the water and surrounding area Saturday evening. The search resumed Sunday.

Body near Copperweld

WARREN TOWNSHIP — Authorities were releasing few details Sunday night regarding a body found near the Copperweld Steel building. The death is believed to be the result of an accidental shooting, but no more information was available.

Apartment fire

AUSTINTOWN — Firefighters responded about 6 p.m. Sunday to a blaze at a South Raccoon Road apartment complex.

No injuries were reported in the fire at the Hillbrook Apartments, and information about a cause or damage estimate wasn’t available.

3 facilities earn honors

COLUMBUS — Three Mahoning Valley facilities have received top honors in the Ohio Department of Aging’s 2007 Nursing Home Resident Satisfaction Survey.

Salem Community Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility and Hampton Woods Nursing Center in Poland were named among the top 25 Ohio nursing homes for resident satisfaction. Lake Vista of Cortland and Salem Community Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility were among the facilities that scored “100” on survey questions: “Would you recommend this facility to a family member or friend?” and “Overall, do you like this facility?”

Nearly 1,000 Ohio facilities participated in the survey, conducted by private contractor.
