PICKERINGTON — Louisville (Ky.) Mercy went on a 15-0 run to start the third quarter, but Boardman stabilized, caught up and went ahead en route to a 67-61 victory for a seventh-place finish in the eight-team Pikerington Holiday Tournament.

Ahead at the half, 31-28, Boardman didn’t register another point and fell behind 43-31. The Spartans (7-4) finally scored with 3:18 remaining in the third quarter and trailed heading into the fourth, 47-45.

Boardman then made its move with the help of Darryce Moore and Courtney Schiffauer. Moore made 11 of her game-high 28 points, while Schiffauer connected on 10 of 12 free throws.

Schiffauer was 14-of-16 overall at the line, scored 24 points and dished out seven of her team’s 16 assists; most of those passes were to Moore, Boardman’s center, for baskets in the final period.

Moore also had seven rebounds, while teammate Erin Brown, a junior, grabbed five. Katie Fiffick contributed four assists.

Schiffauer, who normally occupies a post position, played all of Sunday’s game at guard.

Ellen Sholtes had 20 points for Mercy (4-9), while Kelly Cox had 11 points and five rebounds.

Boardman, which had a 31-28 edge on the boards, finished 1-2 over the weekend.
