Miles, Brown and Beverly spark the Ursuline girls to fourth win


The trio had 10 points each as the Irish beat Lowellville, 53-20.

YOUNGSTOWN — Victoria Miles scored 10 points with seven rebounds to help the Ursuline High girls basketball team defeat Lowellville 53-20 on Thursday.

Jasmine Brown added 10 points, four steals and four rebounds for the Irish (4-4), while Jaleesa Beverly had 10 points, two assists and two blocks. The Irish led 24-10 at halftime.

Ali Grapevine scored 15 points with five rebounds and three blocks for Lowellville (4-6).

YOUNGSTOWN — Alexandra Hines had 13 points, Monet Oliver scored 11 with seven rebounds and Brittney Taylor had 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists for East (5-7), which took a 20-12 lead at the end of the first quarter but couldn’t hold on.

Briana Dawson added 10 points, nine rebounds, two steals, four assists and three blocked shots.

McKenzie Smith led Central (4-5) with 16 points and five rebounds, while Chelsea Andorica and Alivia Myers each had 12 points.

Fitch 40, Poland 33

AUSTINTOWN — Kathy Banfield tossed in 12 points as Fitch rallied in the second half to pull away from Poland.

Rachel Luan added nine points for the Falcons (4-6), while Michelle Benson led Poland (1-7) with 12 points.

Warren Harding 62,
South Range 35

NORTH LIMA — Kamela Bender scored 18 points with five steals and Kourtney Williams added 14 points and four steals to lead Warren Harding (6-4), which took control by outscoring South Range 20-4 in the second quarter. Harding had 17 steals.

Autumn Carter scored eight points to lead South Range (9-1).

Bethel Park 42, Howland 36

NORTH ALLEGHENY, Pa. — Danielle McNabb had 11 points and seven rebounds to lead Bethel Park in a first-round game of the North Allegheny Holiday Classic Thursday.

Candace Martino added nine points while Bridget Beilizh and Erin Varley had eight apiece to aid Bethel Park, which led by 19-17 at the half and 31-27 after three quarters.

Kelly Barzak had 12 points and Alexa Williams 11 with 10 rebounds, five blocked shots and three steals to lead Howland (7-2), which was outscored in the final period, 11-9.

Howland will play in the consolation game tonight against South Park, which lost to North Allegheny in the other opener Thursday.
