Vandals strip South Side homes of copper tubing, bath tubs

YOUNGSTOWN — The front door of a vacant duplex at 520 Almyra Ave. was kicked in and the place stripped of all its basement wiring, police said. Also taken was the bath tubs, sinks and fire places.

The break-in at the South Side dwelling was discovered Wednesday afternoon by a construction worker sent to check on the duplex. Police described the structure as being in horrible condition, with a lot of broken windows.

Also on Wednesday, a construction worker inspecting 451 W. LaClede Ave., a vacant South Side house, reported that 300 feet of electric wiring, 200 feet of copper plumbing, 450 square feet of aluminum siding, gutters, down spouts and the water tank had been stolen.
