GIRARD — Emily Smerchansky scored seven of her 16 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Girard High girls basketball team to its first win of the season, dropping Champion 47-34 in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game on Tuesday.
Smerchansky also had 10 assists for the Indians (1-7, 1-2), who outscored the Flashes 13-3 in the fourth quarter. Freshman Katelynn Brainard added nine points, 14 rebounds and five steals.
Erika Stevens scored 18 points and Heather Beachy added 11 for Champion (0-8, 0-3).
