Bowker, Davner lead Crestview girls to 60-31 rout of Columbiana
COLUMBIANA — Crestview senior Chelsea Bowker provided the bulk of the offense and freshman center Shanelle Davner did the dirty work defensively against a big Columbiana lineup to lead the Crestview High girls basketball team to Friday’s 60-31 victory over Columbiana.
The Rebels controlled the tempo in the first half and vaulted out to a 35-15 halftime advantage as Bowker poured in 17 points in the first two quarters. That offense and solid defense by Davner, who had stints defending Columbiana standout Katie Douglas (6-1) and Katie Witmer (5-10), set the tone for the rout.
“It was important for us to get off to a good start and come out with energy in our house,” Crestview coach Tanja Simieone said. “We’re so honored to have a player like Chelsea who can score and then dish off to her teammates.
“Shanelle stepped up huge for us tonight. She did a great job defensively and crashed the boards.
“We were able to stop Columbiana from getting the ball inside to Douglas and forced them to shoot and that frustrated them.”
Bowker finished with a game-high 28 points while Davner and Brittany Bowker each added 10.
“I was nervous before the game, but the team helped me get through it,” Davner said. “I just tried to be big and try not to let them get the ball. After the second half started, I didn’t feel as nervous. I know coach thinks I can get better.”
Columbiana was paced by 10 points from Douglas and seven from Jenn Gross.
