MOONEY LIVE | Pregame -- McCarthy dresses
We’re about 45 minutes away from kickoff at the Division IV state championship game at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon.
The big note is that senior quarterback Dan McCarthy has dressed for the game, although he (as far as we know) will not play. McCarthy was in street clothes for the last two games and was warming up before the game, throwing passes. He planned to dress all week, but coach P.J. Fecko kept it under wraps.
Mooney sold about 2,000 tickets in its presale, which is about typical for the school. The Cardinals sold almost 1,700 for the Steubenville game.
Mooney will wear its white jerseys with the yellow pants. Coldwater has orange pants with black jerseys.
The Cardinals are trying to do two things they’ve never done before: go 15-0 (the three previous undefeated teams never played 15 games) and win back-to-back titles. Before this four-year run, the Cardinals had never even played in back-to-back title games.
It’s sunny and crisp. Good football weather. Keep in mind that the only place you can get a crucial detail like that one is on this blog or by walking outside.
Tom Williams and I (Joe Scalzo) will be blogging live all game, so be sure to visit Vindy.com often. You can also catch the game on the radio (WKBN-AM 570) or on Sports Time Ohio, which is the same channel that broadcasts Indians games.
