Men's golf 14that Firestone
AKRON -- The Youngstown State men's golf team placed 14th at the First Energy Intercollegiate Sunday at the Firestone Country Club.
The Penguins, who compete in the Horizon League Championships today and Tuesday in Lebanon, Ohio, finished with a three-round score of 921 (302-302-317).
Eastern Kentucky won the event with 868 and Akron (869) was second.
Leading Penguins was sophomore Ryan Stocke, who finished 22nd with 222 (77-72-73). Junior Ross Beal finished 46th with 229 (74-72-83), while freshman Ryan Alpeter (80-79-79--238) and senior Jim Powers (76-79-83--238) tied for 78th.
Freshman was 89th (75-84-82--241) and freshman Jon Hamarik was 95th (78-87-86--251), competing as an individual.
Softball losesto Wright State
FAIRBORN -- Wright State scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and five in the bottom of the fifth to erase a 3-1 deficit and defeat Youngstown State 8-3 Sunday.
Senior Lacy Bronson collected two of the Penguins' (14-17, 5-7) six hits.
YSU travels to Canisius for a doubleheader Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Mooney sweeps Hoban
AKRON -- Scott Smith and Dan Eich combined on a six-hitter in the opener, and Danny Gallagher and Bert Morales teamed up for a five-hitter in the nightcap, as the Mooney High baseball team swept Akron Hoban, 3-2 and 7-3, Saturday.
Smith (6-0) struck out five in six innings in the opener. Tony Brunetti tripled for the Cardinals.
In the second game, Smith, Matt Durkin and Matt Callahan all singled twice for the Cardinals (13-3).
Mike Choban had three hits and Shawn Reed added two on the day for Hoban (9-6).
Rohan, Bartholomewlead Kent baseball
KENT -- Sophomore Greg Rohan (South Range) had three home runs for the Kent State baseball team in a three-game sweep of Ohio.
Rohan hit two homers Sunday in the Golden Flashes' 11-7 victory. Jared Bartholomew (Howland) had a double and two runs scored.
Saturday, Rohan had a double, single and one RBI to help Kent win, 6-1. Bartholomew added two singles.
Friday, Rohan hit a three-run homer and double to help beat Ohio 8-2. Bartholomew had an RBI bunt.
Warren Hall of Famebanquet May 20
WARREN -- The Warren Sports Hall of Fame will honor eight "Local Heroes" May 20 at Sorrento's Banquet Center.
The Local Heroes Corner was established to recognize those who have made a substantial voluntary contribution of time, talent and resources in establishing, maintaining and/or improving sport and recreation in Warren, Champion, Howland and Warren Townships.
This year's honorees Steve Smith and Stanley Szepietowski (Champion); Lenny Huffman and John Nicholas (Howland); Paul "Pappy" Young and James Campbell (Warren), Dennis Frederick and Joe Sanderson (Warren Township).

College signings
*NORTH CANTON -- Kyle Reese, a senior soccer standout for Canfield High last season, is one of six soccer recruits to the Walsh University men's soccer team for 2007-08.
Reese (6-foot-1, 165 pounds), a forward and midfielder for Canfield and a three-year letter-winner, was named to the all-state first team, the NSCAA/Adidas High School Boys All-Region IV team and was picked as Northeast District player of the year. He also was selected Canfield's MVP as a junior and senior.
As a senior, he scored 17 goals and 11 assists, leading Canfield to a 14-3 record.
*ASHLAND -- Sophie Paddock of Hubbard has been recruited by Ashland University where she will continue her volleyball career.
Paddock, who has 11 letters in volleyball, basketball and track, made first-team All-Ohio, all-district and All-Trumbull Athletic Conference in volleyball.
She helped Hubbard win a sectional volleyball championship in 2006 and a district crown in 2005.
Paddock won four letters in volleyball and basketball and three letters in track.
