AMERICAN LEAGUE
Red Sox 7, Yankees 4
NEW YORK -- David Ortiz, Alex Cora and Manny Ramirez homered for Boston, Julian Tavarez got his first win of the season, and the Red Sox sent the Yankees to their eighth loss in nine games. Tavarez (1-2) and four relievers held New York to seven hits, with Jonathan Papelbon pitching the ninth for his eighth save in eight chances. New York's only runs came on a three-run homer in the third by Doug Mientkiewicz, who is hitting .154, and a solo shot in the eighth by Derek Jeter that extended his hitting streak to 17 games.
Tigers 4, Twins 3
DETROIT -- Brandon Inge's leadoff homer in the ninth inning lifted Detroit to victory. Inge entered the game hitting .122, but had three hits, including the winning drive into the left-field stands off Jesse Crain (1-2) in the ninth. Todd Jones (1-1), the third Tigers pitcher, got the win with a perfect ninth inning. Johan Santana gave up three runs and eight hits in six innings for Minnesota. The AL Cy Young Award winner allowed two homers for the first time this season.
Angels 5, White Sox 2
CHICAGO -- Maicer Izturis and Vladimir Guerrero hit back-to-back homers, and Kelvim Escobar allowed four hits over 72/3 innings. Former Angel Darin Erstad hit a two-run homer in the third, but Escobar (2-1) held the White Sox in check after that, striking out three and walking one. Francisco Rodriguez pitched 11/3 innings for his eighth save in nine chances.
Blue Jays 7, Rangers 3
TORONTO -- Alex Rios homered and Tomo Ohka pitched seven innings to win his second straight start in Toronto's victory over Texas. Aaron Hill went 3-4 and drove in two runs for Toronto. He has 17 RBIs this season, tying him with Vernon Wells for the team lead. Ian Kinsler hit a two-run drive in the ninth inning for his ninth of the season, tying the Rangers team record for home runs in April.
Mariners 5, Royals 1
SEATTLE -- Cha Seung Baek took a no-hit bid into the sixth, and Willie Bloomquist's two-out, two-run double in the seventh inning broke a 1-1 tie. Baek overpowered the Royals for six innings, and needed to as Seattle managed just four hits off Kansas City starter Brian Bannister (0-1).
Devil Rays 5, Athletics 3
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Rocco Baldelli, back after missing two games with a bruised right knee, combined with Elijah Dukes for back-to-back home runs in Tampa Bay's victory. B.J. Upton hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the fourth, connecting for the second straight game, then Baldelli and Dukes homered the next inning, the first time this season the Devil Rays hit back-to-back homers.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Dodgers 5, Padres 4, 17 innings
SAN DIEGO -- Brady Clark hit a go-ahead double in the 17th inning as Los Angeles beat San Diego in the longest game in Petco Park's four-year history. It also was the longest game in the major leagues this season. Clark's double into the left-field corner off rookie Justin Hampson scored Wilson Valdez from first base with an unearned run. Valdez reached on a bunt when Pete Laforest, a third-string catcher who was playing first base, committed an error by letting a throw from catcher Rob Bowen hit off the top of his glove.
Rockies 9, Braves 7, 11 innings
DENVER -- Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki turned a rare unassisted triple play, and the Rockies beat Atlanta on Matt Holliday's two-run homer in the 11th inning. Kelly Johnson and Edgar Renteria singled for Atlanta in the seventh and were running on a 3-2 pitch when Tulowitzki caught Chipper Jones' line drive behind second base. The rookie stepped on the bag to double up Johnson and then tagged Renteria for the third out. It was the 13th unassisted triple play in major league history and first since Rafael Furcal did it for the Braves on Sept. 10, 2003, against the Cardinals. The Rockies scored twice in the ninth against closer Bob Wickman to tie it at 7.
Phillies 6, Marlins 1
PHILADELPHIA -- Jamie Moyer took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning and combined with two relievers for a four-hitter. Moyer had faced the minimum 20 batters when Miguel Cabrera broke up the no-hitter with a two-out double in the seventh. The hard liner went over third baseman Abraham Nunez's glove and down the left-field line. Moyer got Josh Willingham to line out softly to end the inning. Moyer (3-1) struck out five and walked two in 71/3 shutout innings. He also went 2-for-3 with a double. Jayson Werth made a key defensive play in left field and had a two-run single for the Phillies, who have won seven of their last nine games.
Mets 1, Nationals 0
WASHINGTON -- John Maine pitched seven sharp innings and Carlos Beltran homered for one of New York's three hits. Maine (4-0) struck out a career-high eight and allowed three hits in lowering his ERA to 1.35. Aaron Heilman, Scott Schoeneweis and Billy Wagner finished the six-hitter. Schoeneweis got out of a two-out, bases-loaded jam in the eighth by getting Ryan Church to ground out to first, and Wagner pitched the ninth for his fourth save in four chances.
Brewers 3, Astros 1
HOUSTON -- Geoff Jenkins homered and Claudio Vargas pitched out of bases-loaded jams in three straight innings to lead Milwaukee. Tony Graffanino and J.J. Hardy also drove in runs for the Brewers, who won a three-game series in Houston for the first time since 1997, when the Astros still played in the Astrodome. Vargas (2-0) gave up four hits and five walks in five shutout innings, toughening up whenever the Astros threatened to score. Francisco Cordero shut out Houston in the ninth for his 10th save in 10 chances this season.
Diamondbacks 5, Giants 4
PHOENIX -- Orlando Hudson hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the seventh inning and Arizona won its fifth straight. Hudson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Brandon Medders (1-0) earned the victory with a scoreless seventh inning. Randy Johnson, making his second start since October back surgery, allowed two earned runs and seven hits in six innings for the Diamondbacks. Barry Bonds pinch hit with one out in the ninth for the Giants and drew a walk from Brandon Lyon.
