"'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' Art Contest." The last book in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series - "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" - will be released on July 21. The new cover has been revealed, but how do you think it should look? From May 1 until June 30, an art contest lets you show everyone. The contest is open to grades 7-12 and a winner will be chosen from each of three categories: grades 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12. Each winner will have his or her artwork reproduced as a library bookmark and displayed on the TeenXTreme website, www.teenxtremeonline.org. Each winner will also receive a free copy of the upcoming Harry Potter book when it is released! Details at library branches and at the TeenXTreme website. (Note: This is a Library contest and is in no way affiliated with Scholastic Inc., publisher of the Harry Potter series.)
"'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' Writing Contest." The last Harry Potter book is coming out on July 21, but nobody knows the ending (except the author). A writing contest from May 1 until June 30 lets you write your own ending to the Harry Potter saga to share with the Library. Get as creative as you like! The contest is open to grades 7-12, and a winner of the Library's contest will be chosen from each of three categories: grades 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12. Winning entries will be posted on the TeenXTreme website, www.teenxtremeonline.org. Each winner will also receive a free copy of the upcoming Harry Potter book. "Lunch & amp; Learn: Frederick Douglass and the Anti-Slavery Movement in the West." Considered "the West" by antislavery activists during the era leading up to the Civil War, northeastern Ohio was a center for abolitionist activities that included, but went far beyond, the Underground Railroad. On numerous occasions, escaped slave Frederick Douglass, famed for abolitionist oratory, traveled to this area. Spend a lunch hour with Dr. Diane Barnes, learning about our area through the eyes of Douglass and his colleagues. Co-sponsored by the Friends of Main Library and the YSU English Department.
