Received Eagle Award
Jim Roberts recently received his Eagle Scout Award, Boy Scouting's highest honor, at a court of honor ceremony at First Federated Church, North Jackson.
Jim has been a member of North Jackson Troop 105 for the past eight years. His scoutmasters have been Paul Matasic, Jim Hamilton and Bill Clark.
He has earned 33 merit badges and his Arrow of Light Award. He has held the positions of senior patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, scribe and quartermaster. He attended Camp Stigwandish for five summers and received his Trail Blazer award at camp.
His Eagle Scout service project was the construction of three crosses with landscaping at Sts. Mary and Joseph School in Newton Falls. Many businesses provided donations of materials to complete this project.
He is the son of Jim and Melissa Roberts and is a senior at Jackson-Milton High School, where he is a member of National Honor Society, track and cross-country. He also is a member of Jackson Milton Livestock Club and raised many animals in 4-H. He plans to attend Youngstown State University in the fall and major in business.
Recognition dinner held
The Whispering Pines District of the Greater Western Reserve Council, Boy Scouts of America, recently hosted their 2007 District Recognition Dinner in the dining hall at Camp Stambaugh in Canfield.
This year's dinner honored 32 Scouts who earned the Eagle Scout Award in 2006, several adults with training awards and the highest award a district can present to an adult scouter, the District Award of Merit.
The adults receiving the award of merit were Beth Harnishfeger from Boardman Cub Scout Pack 114; Mike Kupec from Canfield Boy Scout Troop 25; and Jim Warneke from Canfield Troop 3.
