Activities planned next month at Mill Creek MetroParks facilities:
May 1-June 15: Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens Bulb Sale. Add colorful alliums, tulips, narcissus, crocus and hyacinths to your home garden. Place your order during the Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens' Bulb Sale. Order forms are available at the Gardens for bulbs to be picked up and planted in the fall.
May 1, 8 and 29: 8:30-10 a.m. (beginner level) and 5:30-7 p.m. Yoga & amp; Dance at Fellows Riverside Gardens. Experience a blend of yoga styles amid the restorative power of nature. At the beginning of each class students will take an energizing walk in the gardens with instructor Heidi Suraci. Students at all levels are welcome. Wear comfortable clothes. May 3: 5:30-8 p.m. Botanical Pottery and Nature Jewelry. Local artists Lynn Cardwell and Marcie Applegate will help you create two botanically inspired projects, a leaf-textured, stoneware wall vase and a pendant or earrings of fine silver. May 3: 6-8 p.m. Children's Sneak Peek in the Gardens: Interpreting the Seasons. This special evening presented by Ballet Western Reserve and the Friends of Fellows Riverside Garden is for children accompanied by an adult. Children will be entertained with dancers' interpretation of the seasons, hear about the basics of dance, and learn a bit of gardening fun! Refreshments will be served. May 4: 7 p.m. Enchanted Evening in the Gardens: Interpreting the Seasons. Ballet Western Reserve and the Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens will present an enchanting evening of dance in the Daniel L. Rossi Auditorium. Guests will be entertained by the dancers' interpretation of the seasons. Hors d'oeuvres, dessert and conversation will enhance this memorable evening. May 5: 8 a.m. Bird Walk. Explore the MetroParks in search of feathered spring migrants. Bring binoculars. Easy rating, less than 1 mile. Meet at Newport Wetlands parking lot.
May 5: 8-11 a.m. Photography Field Trip. Enjoy the morning by photographing the exquisite spring beauty of Fellows Riverside Gardens with instructor Patrick Hyland. Class size is limited to 10 students. Meet on the DeYor Concourse. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. Fee: 20 R, 26 NR.
May 5: 10 a.m. Search for Blue-eyed Mary hike. We'll need your blue, brown, or green eyes to help us find an uncommon and exquisite wildflower. Meet at Deerpath Trail off Hitchcock Road. Moderate difficulty, 1.5 miles.
May 6: noon-5 p.m. Dahlia Society's Plant & amp; Tuber Sale. The Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society will hold a sale at Fellows Riverside Gardens. Discover unique varieties that will add to the diversity of your dahlia collection.
May 6: 2 p.m. May Flowers hike. Did April showers bring May flowers? Find out as we search for spring wildflowers. Meet at Newport Wetlands parking lot. Easy rating, 2 miles.
May 6 and 20: 1:30-3:30 p.m. MetroParks Farm Family Tours. Bring your family for a wagon tour through the farm to see what is growing. Tours will begin every half hour. Children will make a craft to take home.
May 9: 9 a.m. Health & amp; Wellness Walk. Meet at Golf Course overflow parking lot off West Golf Drive. Easy rating, 1 or 3 miles.
May 10: 10, 10:45 or 11:30 a.m. Tales for Twos: Little Rabbit Lost. Hippity-hop, its springtime and bunnies are on the move! Two-year-olds and their adult companions are invited to learn about rabbits through their interactive program featuring stories, a scavenger hunt and creative activities. May 11: 10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. Preschool Nature Hour: Nature's Rainbow. Share the wonder and beauty of spring's colors with a child. Preschoolers ages 3-5 and their parents will enjoy a story, "paint with nature," and explore outdoors for wildflowers. Preregister at Ford Nature Center. Fee: 2 R, 3 NR.
May 11-13: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Garden Forum Garden Mart. The Garden Forum of Greater Youngstown will host this spring sale at Fellows Riverside Gardens. An unusual assortment of hanging baskets and bedding plants will be available.
May 12: 8 a.m. Bird Walk. (See May 5) Meet at Birch Hill Cabin.
May 12: 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Wings Over Mill Creek. Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day in the MetroParks. This event features live birds of prey, activities for children, a bird walk, and educational presentations. For details, call (888) 846-8851. Held at Birch Hill Cabin.
May 12: 10 a.m. Wings Over Mill Creek Hike. Join us for a native plant walk as part of the celebration of migratory bird day. Meet at Birch Hill Cabin. Moderate difficulty with hills, one mile.

May 12: 1 p.m. MetroParks Farm Tractor Time. Join us for a tour of the MetroParks Farm and learn about the farm machinery we use. Children will paint a tractor masterpiece.
May 13: 1 p.m. Mother's Day Hike. Bring your mom along on this hike to enjoy the spring beauty of Mill Creek Park. Afterward we'll create nature print cards to honor our mothers. Meet at Ford Nature Center. Moderate difficulty with hills and steps, 2 miles.
May 13: 2-3:30 p.m. Guided Tour of Fellows Riverside Gardens. Enjoy a leisurely Mother's Day walk in Fellows Riverside Gardens to admire the vibrant spring display of colorful tulips. A guide will point out highlights while sharing anecdotes and history. Sign in at the Visitor Center information desk on the afternoon of the tour.
May 13: 2 or 4 p.m. Mother's Day Buffet. Celebrate Mother's Day at Fellows Riverside Gardens with your family and enjoy a delicious buffet catered by the Georgetown. Afterward, take a walk in the gardens to enjoy the spring flowers. Call (330) 740-7074 for reservations and prices.
May 15: 5:30-8 p.m. Botanical Pottery: Toad Cottage. Lynn Cardwell will help you construct a stoneware ornament for a cottage garden. The work will be glazed, fired and ready to take home June 6. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. Fee: 32 ( 25 FFRG members).

May 15: 6 p.m. Health & amp; Wellness Walk. Meet at Yellow Creek Park office. Moderate difficulty with hills and steps, 1, 2 or 3 miles.
May 16 & amp; 18: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Ladies Golf Clinic. Ladies will tune-up their golf game. Topics covered will include short game, full swing and course management. Class limit of 12 participants. May 16: 11 a.m.-noon or 1-2 p.m. Pizza Herb Garden. Herbs are essential ingredients in pizza sauce. Each preschooler 3-5 years old and their favorite adult will plant a container of herbs to tend and harvest throughout the summer. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. Fee: 9 R, 12 NR.
May 17: 4-7 p.m. Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens Members' Preview. Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens Plant Sale. Great roses for the home garden will be highlighted at this plant sale. Perennials, including those for the shade garden, will be available in addition to annuals, herbs, shrubs, vegetables and summer bulbs.
May 18: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens Plant Sale. Open to the public. (See May 17)
May 19: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens Plant Sale. Open to the public. (See May 17)
May 19: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Garden Forum Spring Flower Show. Enjoy the beauty of this spring flower show presented by Garden Forum of Greater Youngstown. Public entries must be received by 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Call (330) 740-7116 for more information.
May 19: 10 a.m. "The Lady and the Panda." Vicki Constantine Croke's account of American explorer Ruth Harkness is "a real-life Indiana Jones adventure," as described by the Chicago Tribune. Read about the dramatic effort to bring back China's most exotic animal and join this naturalist-led discussion. Meet at Ford Nature Center.

May 19: 1:30-2:30 p.m. Hanging Petunia Pail. Children ages 6 and up with their adult companions will plant pails of colorful petunias to bloom in the summer sun. May 20: 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Garden Forum Spring Flower Show. (see May 19)
May 20: 2 p.m. Puzzle Hike. Exercise your legs and brain as you help to solve a nature puzzle on this hike around Lake Cohasset. Meet at Ford Nature Center. Moderate difficulty, 3 miles.
May 22-24: 6-8 p.m. Session II Golf Clinic. Adult Link Up. (See May 15)
May 22: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Succulent Living Wreath. Create a stunning living wreath of succulent plants to enjoy for many seasons. You'll be instructed in the assembly and the care of this unusual wreath. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. Fee: 36 ( 28 FFRG members).
May 22: 7 p.m. Audubon Society Mahoning Valley. Enjoy a wagon tour of the MetroParks Farm and a few surprises at this monthly meeting. Elections of board members for the coming year will be held. May 23: 9 a.m. Health & amp; Wellness Walk. Meet at MetroParks Bikeway Trailhead at MetroParks Farm. Moderate difficulty, 2 or 4 miles.
May 25: 8:30-10 a.m. Breakfast Botany: Flowers. Start your spring morning with a brisk walk in the gardens. Return to the Garden Cafe to enjoy a light breakfast and learn about the importance of flowers to plants. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. Fee: 6 R, 8 NR.
May 25: 9 p.m. Frog Walk II. We'll look for additional species of frogs on this second search of the spring season. Please bring flashlights and wear boots. Meet at Vickers Nature Preserve. Easy rating, 1 mile.
May 27: 9-11 a.m. Restoration Yoga. Restoration Yoga promotes heightened awareness and self-healing through specialized breathing techniques and postures. This state of deep relaxation will create an atmosphere perfect for meditation and journaling. Dress comfortably and bring your yoga mat and a favorite quote. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. May 27: noon-2 p.m. Meditation in Movement. Join Julie Thomas in the Tara Dance. Through simple, graceful movements you learn to focus on inner strengths while appreciating the beauty of the surrounding gardens. Call (330) 740-7116 to register. Fee: 10.
May 27: 2 p.m. Back to Brocker. Hike from Austintown to Canfield along the MetroParks Bikeway. Our return route will include the 150-acre Brocker Preserve with its stunning stream and flora and fauna galore. Conditions may be muddy. Meet at MetroParks Bikeway Trailhead at Kirk Road. Moderate difficulty due to length and terrain, 5 miles.
May 27: 1-4 p.m. MetroParks Farm Lovable Llama. Members of 4-H are bringing their llamas to prepare for exhibiting at the Canfield Fair. See shearing demonstrations, obstacle course maneuvers and other llama activities.
May 29: 6 p.m. Health & amp; Wellness Walk. Meet at Ford Nature Center. Moderate difficulty, 4 miles.
EXHIBITS
Weller Gallery: Through June 3. Interpretations of Nature. Landscapes in watercolor and pastel by Wendy Warner and Kevin McLatchy will brighten the gallery walls and delight viewers. Hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday.
Melnick Museum: Through August. Crossing the Creeks: Mill Creek Park's Stone Bridges. Scenic memories of Mill Creek Park usually include the bridges. The Parapet Bridge is the best known of the stone bridges and a favorite of photographers. Hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday.
