Teachers and scholarship winner honored

LISBON -- The Columbiana County Educational Service Center had its Celebration of Teaching Program last week at Columbiana County Career and Technical Center.
Among other things, teachers were recognized for BEST Practices in Columbiana County schools, and the 2007 Sharon Trotter Keys Scholarship winner was announced.
This year's BEST Practices winners selected this year are: "Top Dog" submitted by Wellsville teacher Jeanne Waggoner, where her students read weekly to Flash, a therapy dog; "Making a Difference through Mentoring," Beaver Elementary Schools, submitted by Anne Eisenhart and mentors from East Liverpool City Hospital who target pupils who may be at-risk for failing to achieve success in school by meeting with them once a week for support and encouragement; and "The Medieval Times" by Crestview Local Middle and High Schools for creation of a multidisciplinary unit by seventh-grade language arts, math, science, social studies and life skills teachers and 11th grade world history teachers.
The Sharon Trotter Keys Scholarship Award recognizes a graduating Columbiana County senior who plans to major in education and join the teaching profession after college. This award, in its 15th year, was created in memory of Sharon Trotter Keys by her family and is supported by the Trotter family and the staff of the Columbiana County ESC. This year's winner of a 1,000 scholarship is Annette Crowell of Lisbon David Anderson High School.
