Oleski's slam leads Fitch; Canfield, Howland win

AUSTINTOWN -- Chuck Oleski belted a grand slam and a single Friday to lead the Fitch High baseball team to a 14-3 victory over Boardman.
Joe Koch had a double, three singles and three RBIs in the Federal League game.
Jim Kinnick and seventh-inning reliever Greg McGlynn combined to pitch a six-hitter for the Falcons (8-8, 3-5 FL), with Kinnick registering six strikeouts.
Jason Bagoly added two doubles and one single for the winners, who rapped 13 hits.
For Boardman, Dom Silvestri socked a solo homer and a double while Mike Popio had two doubles.
Canfield 8, Struthers 2
STRUTHERS -- The Cardinals (17-1) continue to lead the Metro Athletic Conference with a 8-0 record .
Steve Schoenfeld (3-0) worked six shutout innings to pick up the win.
Mark Carrocce and D.J. Haurin each hit a pair of singles and scored twice for Canfield. Mike Hoelzel hit two singles, drove in two runs and scored twice.
Struthers' Mike Vitucci hit a double and single, and drove in a run.
Howland 6, Salem 5
HOWLAND -- Matt Preston's triple in the bottom of the seventh inning scored T.J. Stoian with the winning run for the Tigers (8-3, 4-2 MAC).
Joe Aulizia and Ryan Kellar each had two hits including a double.
Winning pitcher Anthony Mann (2-1) struck out seven batters and walked one.
Losing pitcher Zach O'Brien (1-3) doubled twice for the Quakers (8-9, 3-6). Also with doubles were David Wright and Chip Hank.
Lowellville 12, Wilson 4
STRUTHERS -- Senior Dan Lisko (1-0) notched his first varsity win with an eight-strikeout performance over seven innings at Cene Park.
Of Lowellville's 12 hits, senior Ryan Gruber had a two-run triple in the six-run second inning as the Rockets improved to 9-5.
Getting two hits apiece were juniors Jim Sudon, Tony Donofrio and Vince Simon, and sophomores Drew Skelley and Anthony Schiraldi.
Kevin Price had a double and two singles for the Redmen (2-8).
SoftballMooney 12, Springfield 6
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The Cardinals (16-3) scored six runs in the fourth inning and five in the seventh as they pounded out 17 hits, including one triple and seven doubles.
Kelcie Herberger (4-1) pitched five and a third innings, struck out one and didn't walk a batter to pick up the win.
Meghan Williams hit a double and two singles, drove in a run and scored once for Mooney.
Laura Guyer hit a triple, single and scored once. Veronica Skowron hit a double, single and drove in three runs. Katie Hughes hit a double, single and drove in two runs.
For the Tigers (7-6), Andria Lyons hit three singles, stole two bases and scored once.
Breanne Mincher doubled, hit two singles and scored once.
Liberty 5, Girard 2
GIRARD -- The Leopards (4-7, 4-4 Trumbull Athletic Conference) took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third inning and the Indians (5-9, 1-4) couldn't catch up.
Alison House (4-4) scattered six hits o pick up the win.
Michelle Dykes hit two double and a single to pace Liberty. Jessie Szakacs hit a pair of singles.
Melissa Weitzman hit a double and single for the Indians.
