AIR FORCE Cutting back

SNIP, SNIP: Air Force bases around the country are looking for even the smallest ways to cut costs. Gyms have been shuttered, mess-hall meals scaled back, telephone lines pulled and grass-cutting reduced.
WHY? Fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, aging aircraft and rising energy costs are devouring the budget.
QUOTE: "It's the small things consistently practiced over time that can help reduce costs." -- Lt. Col. Trent Edwards, comptroller of the 88th Air Base Wing, which operates Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
