Habitat for Humanity plans groundbreaking for new home

It is the first Women Build project in Mahoning County.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County will break ground at 10 a.m. Tuesday for a new home on Berwick Avenue on the East Side.
Habitat will build the home through the efforts of its Women Build Committee and in partnership with the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority's YouthBuild Mahoning County program, officials said.
The Habitat partner/owner of the house, the financing of which is sponsored in part by a grant from FirstEnergy, is Jessica Candelaria.
YouthBuild is a national program that helps low-income young people ages 16-24 work toward their GED or high school diploma while learning construction skills by building affordable housing for low-income families.
The groundbreaking will mark the first Women Build project in Mahoning County, Habitat officials said. Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity International program that promotes the idea of women making a difference by building homes in their communities.
Joan Johnston, co-chairwoman of the Women Build committee, encouraged women to get involved in the project.
Participants
YouthBuild participants will be on-site during the week while Women Build members will work on the house every Saturday once construction begins.
