The city school district is moving ahead with its 14-school, 190 million rebuilding program. The school board took these actions this week:
Approved seeking bids on an Early Site Package for the new Paul C. Bunn Elementary. That work, involving foundation construction and site improvements, has an estimated cost of about 900,000. The building design shows facilities for 350 pupils at a total construction cost of just over 11.1 million.
Approved seeking bids for the Final Site Package for the new 30 million East High School. That work, with a 570,000 cost estimate, will include additional parking and sidewalks on the south side of the school, a football practice field also on the south side and grading for a proposed softball field on the other side of Parker Street just north of the school.
Approved a 107,274 contract with Brewer-Garrett Co. of Middleburg Heights, Ohio, to oversee the design and installation of the heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems at the five remaining schools to be built: Bunn, North Elementary, Volney Rogers Middle School, Rayen Middle School and Wilson Middle School. School officials said the Ohio School Facilities Commission now requires that oversight on all new buildings it helps finance. The OSFC is picking up 80 percent of Youngstown's rebuilding costs.
