Burgess's high school coach, Thom McDaniels, has coached several NFL players, including former Ohio State standouts Jamar Martin, Mike Doss and Kenny Peterson. "Absolutely I'm proud when a former player gets to the NFL," said McDaniels. "But I'm proud of all my players if they were good kids and worked hard, no matter if they play college football or don't or play in the NFL or don't. And I like to believe that somehow, someway I contributed to their development along the way."
