Prank puts college kid in hot water

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — A former Gannon University student called her friend in the middle of the night and told the friend not to go to class because there was going to be a “massacre,” authorities said.

Valerie Cantu apparently meant the call as a prank, but the friend and Gannon officials did not take it that way, Erie police Lt. Kirk Werner said. Campus police responded and the school alerted students to a possible threat.

Cantu, 19, of Erie, was in the Erie County Prison on Thursday on charges of making terroristic threats and harassment by communication. It was not immediately clear if she had an attorney.
