Lakeview wins Bulldog battle, topples Poland

CORTLAND -- Eric Pirtz, Dave DeJacimo, Jeff Musick, Ryan Nisbett and Kevin Monti each had two hits Tuesday as the Lakeview High baseball team defeated Poland, 9-5.
Pirtz hit a two-run homer and a bases-clearing double to drive in five runs for Lakeview (7-9).
For Poland, Matt Pitzullo had two hits and David White drove in two runs with a double.
Salem 14, Campbell 5
CAMPBELL -- Chip Hank's three hits included a double for the Quakers (8-8, 3-5). Zach O'Brien's two hits included a triple.
Also with two hits were Derek Ball and winning pitcher Brandon Holland.
For the Red Devils (4-5, 2-4), Dannu Sacui doubled twice while Raul Pizzaro and Rich Tisone each had two hits.
Ursuline 9, Pymatuning Valley 0
STRUTHERS -- Robert Switka (4-0) scattered four hits with four strikeouts to pick up the win for the Irish (11-2).
Nick McGahagan tripled, doubled, singled, scored once and drove in four runs for the Irish. Ed Rohan hit two singles, scored twice and drove in a run.
Bryan Easton paced Pymatuning Valley (6-10) with three singles.
Warren JFK 11, Southington 1
WARREN -- Senior Vince Peluso tossed a three-hitter and junior Brian Guarnieri had three hits and two RBIs for JFK (10-5).
Junior Corey Diles doubled and singled and had two RBIs, junior Elliot Killen had a two run-single and sophomore Eric Ambrose hit a solo home run for the winners.
Southington is 1-6.
Hubbard 6, LaBrae 1
LABRAE -- Freshman pitcher Bo Slemons pitched a complete game six-hitter, striking out six and walking two, to earn his first varsity victory.
Mike Carnahan added a double for the Eagles (9-6, 4-3 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Mike Witherow had two hits, including a triple, for LaBrae.
Brookfield 13, Liberty 8
LIBERTY -- Winning pitcher Nate Beasley's four hits included a homer and double for the Warriors, who scored seven unearned runs.
For the Leopards (6-7, 5-2 TAC), Kyle Conway homered and Ryan Karson's three hits included a double. Jon Krause also doubled.
West Branch 8, Carrollton 1
CARROLLTON -- Tyler Newhart's two hits included a double and drove in two runs for the Warriors (12-3, 6-3 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).
Shawn Linder and Eric Stull also doubled in runs for West Branch.
Carrollton is 7-8, 1-6.
Mathews 15, Bristol 0
VIENNA -- Freshman Rick Sommers pitched a one-hit shutout for the Mustangs (6-5, 2-2 Northeast Athletic Conference).
He struck out six batters and walked none.
John Scudier homered while Sommers, Adam Collier, Jake Swank, Luke Weymer and Kyle Davis each had two hits.
Davis had two doubles while Collier had one.
For Bristol, Greg Pankch doubled.
Coventry 2, Southeast 0
RAVENNA -- Kyle Phillabaum (3-1) scattered four hits to pick up the win for Coventry (5-7). Jim Harris hit a double.
Steve Yenulonis (0-4) also allowed only four hits in a losing cause as the Pirates fell to 3-10.

WARREN -- Anthony Franceschelli went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs for Mooney (11-3, 3-0 SVC). Scott Smith, Matt Durkin, Mark Babyak and Tim Marlowe each added two hits.
Josh Swipas tripled for JFK.
