Teenager charged in Cortland handgun theft

CORTLAND — A father and his teenage son have now been charged with the theft of eight handguns. Adam Zienkiewicz, 18, of Warren-Meadville Road, Bazetta, was charged Monday with receiving stolen property. He has not been arraigned.

His father, Walter Zienkiewicz, 48, of Johnson-Plank Road, Bazetta, appeared Monday in Trumbull County Central District Court on a charge of receiving stolen property.

The father was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond, while his son may be arraigned Wednesday.

Adam Zienkiewicz, city police said, allegedly stole six of eight guns that were taken during an April 13 break-in at the Cortland home of a firearms collector. He gave them to his father, who allegedly fenced three of them. The father had three of the guns when his home was searched. Police have recovered all the firearms.
