Lower's one-hitter leads Ursuline past Fitch; Campbell shut out at home by Niles, 15-0



Melissa West pitched a no-hitter as Canfield blanked Salem, 10-0.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Freshman Casey Lower (8-2) pitched a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts as Ursuline High's softball team posted a 5-0 victory over Fitch Monday night.
Fitch's Danielle Crum led off the fourth inning with a single to spoil Lower's bid for a no-hitter.
Natalie Palermo of the Irish (9-3) hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Mary Hendricks, who had singled, to give Fitch a 1-0 lead in the first inning. She also hit two singles, one of them drove in two runs in the fifth inning.
Lake 4, Boardman 1
UNIONTOWN -- Winning pitcher Mallory Harder doubled for the Blue Streaks (8-3, 4-1 Federal League) while Brianne Keller had two hits.
For the Spartans (7-7, 2-2), Jamie Amero had two hits including a RBI double.
Canfield 10, Salem 0
CANFIELD -- Melissa West fired a no-hitter for the first-place Cardinals (12-1, 5-1 Metro Athletic Conference).
Bianca Biondillo homered, Rachel Melewski tripled and Lauren Sulick had two doubles and two RBIs. West and Tricia Bettura had two hits each while Allie Wyatt scored twice.
Brittany Gregory pitched three innings for the Quakers (3-6, 1-3).
Niles 15, Campbell 0
CAMPBELL -- Aubrey Hale pitched a six-hitter with eight strikeouts while Niles had 17 hits to roll past Campbell at Roosevelt Park.
Brooke Joseph had two doubles and three RBIs to lead Niles (6-6, 2-1 MAC), while Kelly Shamrock added a double, two singles and one RBI and Melyssa Spowart two singles and one RBI.
For Campbell (1-8, 0-5 MAC), Taylor Burton hit a triple and a single and Delilah Bemedis two singles.
Poland 19, East Liverpool 0
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Jenna Medina (2-0) scattered three hits and struck out nine to pick up the win in the MAC game.
The Bulldogs sent 16 batters to the plate in the sixth inning. Poland had six walks and two hit batters and six of those runners scored.
Jenna Susany hit a double and three singles, scored once and drove in five runs for the Bulldogs.
Howland 4, Struthers 0
STRUTHERS -- The Tigers scored three runs in the second inning. Abby Nicholas pitched a complete game to pick up the win. She also hit a two-run homer in the second inning.
Struthers pitcher Ashley Baron hit a double.
Mineral Ridge 15, South Range 13
BEAVER TOWNSHIP -- Heather Reinhart had four hits and four RBIs to lead the Rams (6-7, 4-4 Inter Tri-County League Tier One).
Winning pitcher Brooke Brdek also had four hits while Melanie Sparks drove in three runs with a triple and a double.
For South Range, Danielle Downey had four hits and Michelle Beachley homered.

NORTH JACKSON -- Kirsta Kiraly pitched a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts while Carrie Fiol had two hits and three RBIs to lead Jackson-Milton (11-5, 8-1 ITCL). Kiraly is 10-3.
Jessica Balent and Kortney Gherardi each had two hits for J-M.
Western Reserve 4, Sebring 0
BERLIN CENTER -- Brittany Boyer struck out 11 in posting a one-hitter for the Blue Devils (10-9, 7-2 ITCL Tier Two).
McKenzie Mowery hit two doubles to drive in two runs while Elizabeth Srock doubled.
For the Trojans (7-9, 4-5), Jacqui Zmuda singled in the sixth inning.
Southeast 17, Coventry 0
AKRON -- The Pirates (11-3) took a 10-0 lead in the first inning.
Shannon Hamilton (8-1) scattered two hits to pick up the win. She also hit two home runs, tripled and drove in eight runs. Danielle Kaley hit three singles and drove in three runs. Alyssa Biltz hit a single and double.
Newton Falls 10, Brookfield 0
BROOKFIELD -- Jasmine Hawkins and Emily Montgomery each had two hits for the Tigers (10-4, 6-1 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Blaine Chapman doubled while winning pitcher Marisa Matas tossed a one-hitter and struck out four.
For Brookfield (0-8, 0-7), Stephanie Van Meter singled in the fifth inning. Corin Miller had seven strikeouts.
