Lakeview district saves on insurance bill

CORTLAND -- The Lakeview School District will be saving on insurance next year after voting to award yearly property insurance to First Place Insurance.
The district paid 26,606 last year but will now pay 25,135 to First Place Insurance, associated with First Place Bank, located in Warren.
The payment will cover the period from April 14, 2007, to April 14, 2008. The deductible also fell to 2,500 from 10,000 last year.
Superintendent Robert Wilson said at Monday's school board meeting the district generally uses the insurance to cover water damage but can use it to repair fire, weather and other damage. Board member Don Moore said the district has been lucky and hasn't had any major damage in recent years.
Also at the meeting, the board accepted the resignation of Judy Polinko, who teaches English at Lakeview High School. Wilson said Polinko was a valued member of the Lakeview staff. Wilson said Polinko was "extremely student oriented" and was an "outstanding professional" in the Lakeview district.
"She's someone you really can't replace," Wilson added. Polinko will step down in June.
