Six workers to take buyout deal
YOUNGSTOWN — Less than three months after offering an early-retirement incentive for certain city workers, six are taking the deal.
They include two department heads and the court’s chief bailiff.
Finance Director David Bozanich said he expects about 40 city workers, including some more department heads, to take the deal before the Jan. 31, 2008, deadline.
Among the six already signed up for the buyout are: Daniel Brott, the income tax director who’s worked for the city for 35 years, and Lawrence P. Gurlea, the wastewater superintendent and a 25-year city employee.
Also signed up are: William M. Geidner II, a water department construction foreman and 35-year city worker; Michael J. Crogan, Youngstown Municipal Court’s chief bailiff and a 30-year city employee; Larry C. Himes, an air pollution controller for the health department who’s worked for the city for 31 years; and Michael Duboy, a computer network administrator who’s worked 11 years for the city.
The city approved a plan in February to buy two years of state Public Employees Retirement System time for eligible workers.
PERS hasn’t calculated the cost of buying two years of time for Duboy and Himes, but the city is paying $181,162 for the early buyouts of the four others.
