TOLEDO -- Kasey Lower pitched a one-hitter and struck out 12 Friday as the state-ranked Ursuline High softball team rolled over Cleveland Heights Beaumont, 11-1, in the Toledo St. Ursula Invitational.
Natalie Palermo had three hits including two triples with five RBIs.
Today, the Irish (8-1) will meet Sylvania Southview at 10 a.m. and Rocky River Magnificat at noon.
Jolanta Carkido added three hits, including a double, and two RBIs, while Mary Hendricks added two hits.
Lower whiffed 11 of the first 12 batters she faced as she improved to 7-1 on the year.
Mooney 9, Dover 5
MASSILLON -- At the Tigertown Invitational at Genshaft Park, the Cardinals (12-2) rallied from a 5-1 deficit with an eight-run fifth inning.
Kelcie Herberger had three hits while Katie Hughes, Mara Palombaro and Laura Guyer had two apiece.
In the fifth inning, Mooney sent 12 batters to the plate and produced eight hits, including a two-run single by Palombaro. With two outs, Guyer singled to tie the game and Krissy Cormell hit a two-run double.
Winning pitcher Chrissy Porter (9-1) struck out 12 batters and walked three.
Dover is 11-3.
Today, Mooney plays Field at 10 a.m. and Perry at noon.
Canfield 1, Walsh Jesuit 0
ASHLAND -- A pitchers duel was settled by the Cardinals (9-1) who won a tiebreaker game in the top of the eighth inning in the East of Chicago of Tournament.
The tiebreaker rule had the person who made the last out in the seventh inning going to second base. Canfield substituted pinch runner Bianca Biondillo. She scored on a single by winning pitcher Lauren Sulick (4-0) who pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
In a losing cause, Walsh Jesuit's Cory Rubright (4-3) pitched a three-hitter.
The Cardinals play Ross High School today at 9 a.m.
Hoover 9, Poland 1
LAGRANGE -- Ashley Conger's two hits included a double for the Bulldogs (7-3) at the Keystone Tournament.
Allie Patton's two singles were Poland's other hits against the defending Division I state champions.
Jessica Simpson improved to 8-0 for the Vikings (10-0).
In a second game, Poland defeated Barberton, 5-2. Liz Maher homered and doubled to drive in two runs.
Jenna Susany's two hits produced three RBIs. Jordan Palumbo was the winning pitcher.
Barberton is 6-9.
Warren Harding 8, Chaney 7
YOUNGSTOWN -- Trailing 7-4, the Raiders (3-7, 1-2 Steel Valley Conference) rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning for the victory.
The Raiders took advantage of two walks and two errors to score those four runs.
Sabrina Nacarato, in a losing cause, allowed only three hits and struck out seven for the Cowgirls (3-7, 1-2).
Lisette Encarnation hit a double, single and drove in two runs for Chaney.
Lowellville 15, Rayen 0
LOWELLVILLE -- Seniors Cori Pavlicko, Cori Smith, Kristen Pallozzi and Jacque Schrader combined to toss a five-inning one-hitter for the Rockets (7-4).
Carla Blinsky hit a three-run homer. Casey Wilson and Shawna McDowell had had two hits including a double.
Also with doubles were Blinsky, Smith and Stephanie Yankle.
S. Walker singled in the fifth inning for Rayen's hit.
Struthers 19, Salem 2
SALEM -- The Wildcats scored eight runs in the first inning of the Metro Athletic Conference contest.
Ashley Baron hit a double and drove in five runs, while winning pitcher Ellen Becker hit a pair of doubles. Pam Sajnoski and Halle Skook each hit three singles.
Howland 16, Campbell 0
HOWLAND -- Tiffany Jacques' two hits included a double and drove in three runs for the Tigers (4-5, 1-2 MAC).
Carly Sabat's two hits included a triple while Rachel Bixler had two singles. Winning pitcher Abby Nicholas (2-5) and Jenna Debiec also doubled.
East Liverpool 7, Campbell 2
HOWLAND -- East Liverpool, leading 4-2, put the MAC game out of reach as it scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning at Howland Township Park.
The Red Devils (1-7, 0-4) were paced by Delilah Benedis, who singled, walked, stole three bases and scored twice.
Jackson-Milton 7, Girard 2
GIRARD -- Krista Kiraly scattered seven hits for the Bluejays (7-5).
For the Indians (2-7), Missy Weitzman's two hits included a double. Katie Noday also doubled.
Mathews 12, Badger 0
KINSMAN -- Amber Jarvis, Stephanie Durig, McKenzie Brown and Alyssa DeJean each had two hits for the Mustangs (7-1, 3-0 Northeast Athletic Conference).
Alli Stein (2-1) tossed a two-hitter, struck out six batters and walked one to earn the victory.
For Badger, Amanda Peska had both hits.
Canton South 4, West Branch 0
CANTON -- Katie Newman pitched a two-hit shutout and Natalie Ridenbaugh had a double and two RBIs to lead Canton South.
Lyndsey Todor allowed five hits while striking out three in the loss. Ashley Gibbons and Kelsey Price had the only hits for West Branch.
