Red Sox conquer Yanks again, 7-5

Pitcher Josh Beckett overcame a rocky start to improve his record to 4-0.

BOSTON -- David Ortiz homered, Alex Rodriguez didn't, and Josh Beckett settled down after a rocky start to help the Boston Red Sox earn their second consecutive victory over the New York Yankees, 7-5, Saturday.
Rodriguez was 2-for-4 for the Yankees with a double and an RBI single, extending his hitting streak to 21 games dating to last season. But a day after he hit two home runs to match the fastest start in baseball history -- 12 homers in the first 15 games -- his home run streak was snapped at four straight games.
Beckett (4-0) allowed a pair of runs in each of the first two innings, but retired 15 out of 17 batters before allowing three straight baserunners with two outs in the seventh to cut Boston's lead to 7-5. Hideki Okajima struck out Jason Giambi to end the threat.
Beckett gave up five runs and nine hits to pick up his career-high fourth consecutive win. Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth for fifth save in as many tries.
Boston has won four straight and seven of eight.
Jeff Karstens (0-1) allowed seven runs and nine hits in 41/3 innings for the Yankees.

White Sox 7, Tigers 5, 10 innings
DETROIT -- The Chicago White Sox got to Detroit's bullpen again.
Jermaine Dye doubled in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning and Chicago beat the Tigers for its fourth straight win. The victory came less than 24 hours after the White Sox pushed across a run in the seventh against Detroit reliever Jason Grilli and held on for a 5-4 win.
This time it was Fernando Rodney (1-4), who gave up two hits and two runs in the 10th. The Tigers have lost three straight.
David Aardsma (2-0) got the last out of the ninth for the win and Bobby Jenks pitched a perfect 10th for his sixth save in seven chances.
Chicago starter Jose Contreras retired 16 straight batters after Carlos Guillen's first-inning grand slam, but Magglio Ordonez ended the run in the sixth when he sent a two-out pitch deep into left-center field for his second home run of the season.
Nate Robertson gave up three earned runs and five hits in 61/3 innings for the Tigers. He struck out three and walked two.
