Canfield 2, Hamilton Ross 0Canfield 6, Circleville 0
ASHLAND -- Tricia Bettura and Lauren Sulick each tossed four-hit shutouts to lead Canfield to two victories at the East of Chicago tournament. Bettura struck out three against Hamilton Ross. Rachel Melewski scored twice, Melissa West had an RBI double and Sulick had a double for the Cardinals. Ross is 12-2. In the second game Sulick struck out five and Bryanne Halfhill went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Bettura added a two-run homer. West had an RBI double and Jena Ervin had an RBI single for Canfield (11-1). Circleville is 10-4.
LaGrange Keystone 6, Poland 5Poland 1, Medina Highland 0
LaGRANGE -- Jenna Medina tripled and singled, Jenna Susany had two hits and Allyson Kennedy had a two-out single in the top of the seventh to force extra innings for Poland, which gave up six unearned runs to fall to Keystone, the state's top-ranked team in Div. II. Liz Maher struck out six in pitching a six-hitter for the Bulldogs. Keystone scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth without getting a hit. Against Medina Highland, Allie Patton pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out four without walking a batter, to lead the Bulldogs (8-4). Julia Johnston had two hits, and Emma Brenoel drove in Patton for the game's only run.
Mooney 3, Field 1Massillon Perry 4, Mooney 3
MASSILLON -- Sophomore Kelcie Herberger gave up two hits and struck out five before Chrissy Porter fanned five of six over the last two innings for Mooney against Field in the Tiger Town Invitational. Senior Mara Palombaro had two singles and an RBI for the Cards, who handed Field its first loss after seven victories. Two errors in the fifth allowed Perry to score three unearned runs against Mooney, which out-hit Perry, 9-3. Of Mooney's nine singles, senior DiAndra Dibacco had three and Palombaro two. Both Mooney (13-3) and Perry (7-3) tied for first place in their respective flights.
Sylvania Southview 4, Ursuline 3Magnificat 1, Ursuline 0
TOLEDO -- Southview rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to prevail in the opener. Mary Hendricks singled home Kasey Foley and she scored on a single by Nikka Bonamase in the second inning to give Ursuline a 2-1 lead. In the second game Magnificat got the only run of the contest on an error in the first inning. Casey Lower (7-2), a freshman, pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts and no walks in a losing cause as the Irish posted a 1-2 record in the tournament.
Fitch 5, Mentor 1
AUSTINTOWN -- Kara Roche pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts for Fitch (4-5). Daunisha Tatum doubled twice and drove in two runs and freshman Haley Martinelli had two hits and an RBI.
Yo. Christian 16-14, Rayen 6-13
YOUNGSTOWN -- In the second game, with two outs, freshman Ashley Gonda knocked in sophomore Amy Dearing with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning at Volney Rogers. Freshman Cristi Cooper had three hits including a triple, while senior Melissa Byrdy (3-2) registered eight strikeouts. In the opener, Cooper had three hits and freshman Sara Bell had two hits for Youngstown Christian. Sophomore Cecily Sandy (2-4) had six strikeouts in a six-hitter.
Mathews 6-8, Crestview 5-1
VIENNA -- Allie Stein's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored McKenzie Brown to lift Matthews in the opener. Kaitlin Youngs had three hits, including a homer, and two RBIs and Miranda Tatum also had two hits. For Crestview, Kelly Peppel and Mallory Plugh had two hits. In the second game, Youngs struck out 15 and walked just one to improve to 5-0. Youngs also doubled twice for the Mustangs (9-1).
Jackson-Milton 9-5, Rootstown 0-3
ROOTSTOWN -- Cat Keck homered twice to drive in five runs in the Bluejays' first victory. Carrie Fiol's two hits included a double. Kortney Gherardi had three RBIs. Krista Kiraly (9-3) was the winning pitcher in both games. She struck out 10 batters in the one-hitter she tossed in the first game. In the second game, Kiraly had 12 strikeouts and two walks, and allowed four hits for Jackson-Milton (10-5). Keck, Laura Yash and Kaitlyn Pieko each had two hits. For Rootstown (6-7), Paige Berger had two hits.
Lowellville 4-0, East Palestine 2-12
LOWELLVILLE -- East Palestine's Allison McMillen pitched a one-hitter with four strikeouts to lead the Bulldogs (11-4) in the second game. Becky Bollinger added two hits, including a three-run homer, and Brittany Dennison singled and doubled. Cori Pavlicko doubled for Lowellville (8-5). In the first game, Cori Smith singled twice, driving in two runs with the second single as the Rockets broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth. Jessie Gamble added two hits and Carla Blinsky (6-3) struck out six to get the win.
Malvern 9-12, Southern 1-6
MALVERN -- Jocelyn Worshek pitched Malvern to the first-game victory, while Kelly Murray gained the nightcap verdict. Worshek struck out six.
Western Reserve 1-0, Lisbon 0-8
LISBON -- In the first game of the doubleheader, Elizabeth Srock (5-5) pitched a two hitter with seven strikeouts. Angela Thomas singled to start the sixth inning for Western Reserve and she scored the only run of the contest on a single by Chelsea Korda. Lisbon's Erica Snoddy, in a losing cause, allowed only four hits and struck out 11. In the second game, Lisbon scored four runs in the fourth inning, then iced it with three more in the sixth. Emily Smith hit a triple and two singles to spark Lisbon. Ashley Clapper scattered three hits and struck out four to pick up the win.
Western Reserve 9, South Range 5
BERLIN CENTER -- Ellie Sanders hit four singles and drove in three runs for the Blue Devils in Friday's game. Erika Goddard and Brittany Boyer each hit two singles. Brittany Boyer pitched a complete game as she scattered six hits to pick up the win.
Lakeview 26, Brookfield 2
BROOKFIELD -- Junior Kailynn Cerny (3-0) had 10 strikeouts and issued two walks in pitching a three-hitter. Jessica Downs went 5-for-5 including two doubles and the sophomore finished with three RBIs for Lakeview (7-1, 3-0 TAC). Lex Sidley and Brigitte Morvay had four hits apiece and Amy Downs, a senior, went 3-for-3 and scored twice for the Bulldogs. Chelsea Butler, Angela DiCesare, Abbey Bensing and Joanna Novotny each had two hits for the Bulldogs. Morvay, Butler, Bensing and Jessica Downs had three RBIs apiece, while Jami Orahood and Brittany Massacci each knocked in two runs. For Brookfield, Corrin Miller had a double and single and Rachel Baker hit a double.
St. Thomas 7-2, West Branch 3-1
LOUISVILLE -- In the first game, the Warriors' Bri Benedict had three hits, including a double. Kelly Smith had two hits for Aquinas. In the second game, Brittany Snyder had West Branch's hit. The Warriors are 2-12.
