HOWLAND -- Senior Anthony Mann pitched the first no-hitter of his career, striking out seven without walking a batter. One player reached base for the Leopards due to a passed ball on a third strike. Ryan Keller and T.J. Spoian each had three hits for the Tigers (7-2), while Joe Aulizia, Stephen Stelk and Steve Preston each added two.
Niles 9, Ursuline 7
STRUTHERS -- Anthony Capogreco and Billy Eddy both had two RBIs and Mike Kelly scored three times for Niles (5-4). Ed Rohan had three hits and Matt Yarab had two hits and scored three times for Ursuline (8-3).
Mooney 14-4, St. Thomas 2-2
STRUTHERS -- Mark Babyak and Tim Marlowe each went 3-for-3 for the Cardinals in the first game. Drew Fitzpatrick, Scott Smith, Tony Brunetti, Anthony Franceschelli, Bob Herberger and Chris May each added two hits. In the second game, Franceschelli went the distance, striking out five. Babyak went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer. Brunetti had two hits. Daniel Adler and John Whitaker each had two hits for Aquinas.
Wilson 17, Yo. Christian 13
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kevin Price went 3-for-4 with a double and four runs scored to lead the Redmen (2-5). Also for Wilson, Victor Cardarelli had a bases-loaded double that plated three runs. Anthony LaGamba had two singles and scored three times for the Eagles.
Fitch 10-6, Canton McKinley 2-12
CANTON -- Jason Bagoly slugged a solo home run and one-run single while Rick Segesto and Mike Dota each added two singles to lead Fitch in the first game. Jim Kinnick got the mound win with sixth-inning relief help from Segesto. They combined on a seven-hittter. Miguel Rodriguez had a double and single and Zack Leonard two singles to lead McKinley. In the nightcap, Leonard rapped a three-run triple and a sacrifice fly for four RBIs to lead McKinley (8-5, 3-3 Federal League), while Brian Dougherty contributed three singles and one RBI. For Fitch (7-7, 2-3), Nick Wiery had a double and two singles and J.D. Kubacki and Mike Dota each singles.
Hubbard 2, Warren Harding 1
HUBBARD -- The Eagles (7-4) scored two unearned runs to win. Clayton Ruminski pitched five innings to earn the victory. For Harding (7-4), Joe Sekula and Will Sekula each had two hits.
Harding 13, Chaney 0
WARREN -- Josh Fulmer pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts while Dan Popadek had two doubles and two RBIs, to lead Harding in a game played Friday at the Raiders' field. Fulmer also rapped two singles and drove in one run, as Harding (7-3, 2-1 SVC) scored eight runs in the first inning and coasted.
Boardman 6-5, Canfield 3-6
CANFIELD -- The Spartans (6-7) handed the Cardinals (14-1) their first loss of the season in the opening game of the doubleheader. Kevin McCulloh (3-1) scattered eight hits and struck out six to pick up the win. Corey Kollar hit a double, single, stole a base and drove in a run for the Spartans. Mike Kellar hit two singles and drove in two runs. John Pitzulo hit a double for the Cardinals. Canfield, trailing 5-2 in the sixth inning of the second game, rallied for three runs to tie it in the seventh. The Cardinals' Brian Fox was hit by a pitched ball leading off the eighth inning. John Manzoian came in to pinch-run for Fox. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Pitzulo then hit a grounder to the second baseman who bobbled the ball for an error and Manzoian scored the winning run. Josh Dankovich (2-0) came on in relief in the sixth inning for Canfield to pick up the win.
Western Reserve 5, Lisbon 3
LISBON -- Matt Kalbfell and Steve Stack each had three hits, while Dave Drevna, John Porterfield and David Snowden added RBI singles. Winning pitcher John Porterfield allowed three hits in four innings and Jerod Barker added two scoreless innings of relief for Reserve (7-5).
West Branch 13-15, Southeast 1-3
BELOIT -- In both games of the doubleheader, the Warriors (10-3) rolled to five-inning victories. The Warriors pounded out 12 hits in the first game, with Evan Campbell and Jase Uyselt each hittingv two singles, while Jarred Harris and Trent Woods hit a double apiece. Chad Trask hit a pair of singles for the Pirates. In the second contest, West Branch again showed its power with 15 hits, with Shawn Linder hitting a double and two singles and Steve McNeely and Woods each getting two singles. Josh Antill worked four innings, allowed only three hits and struck out five to pick up the win.
Ash. Edgewood 10-0, Lakeview 6-11
ASHTABULA -- Kyle Stroup had three hits and Jon Mullins, Kevin Monti, Mark Novotny and Dave DeJacimo each had two for Lakeview in the opener. DeJacimo also had two RBIs. In the second game, Mullins and Justin Williams combined on a five-hit shutout. Ryan Nisbett had three hits and three RBIs for the Bulldogs (4-8).
