Miami U. student killed by a freight train

OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — Five friends of a Miami University student killed by a freight train were charged with helping the girl get drunk, police said.

Beth Speidel, 19, became separated from her friends and was killed April 14 while walking away from campus about a mile from her dorm. Her blood-alcohol level was 0.229 percent, authorities said. Under Ohio law, a driver is considered drunk at 0.08 percent.

A 19-year-old sophomore from the Cleveland suburb of Strongsville, Speidel visited an off-campus apartment and at least two bars before she died, police said.
