Decorations and awards were given to students Friday at The Rayen School who are part of its Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program and excel in academic and military achievement, or for their distinguished acts and extracurricular activities. Top academic winners were:
Distinguished Cadet award (top academic performance): Charles Greer, freshman; and Clinton Holt, sophomore.
Superior Cadet metal (top 10 percent of their JROTC academic class): Stephanie Tate, senior; Amanda Ritt, junior; Holt; and Greer.
Academic Excellence award (highest grade point average in program): Tate; Lytanya Wylie, junior; Bernice Cintron, sophomore; Holt; and Greer.
Freshman Samantha Gonzalez was honored for administering first aid to a student Nov. 20 in the school auditorium. The student was having an epileptic seizure.
