Cerny has 30 years in dual roles

Frances Cerny completed her 30th year as secretary-treasurer of the St. Brendan Women's League at West Side Lanes earlier this month.
While the league has changed in that time, Cerny's record-keeping method hasn't.
"I still use pen and paper," she said. "Everything I do is by hand because that's the way the women prefer it. They're satisfied with everything I've done. In fact, they won't let me go."
In 30 years, Cerny said she's never had any disputes to be resolved by the women's association; nor has she had any snags fulfilling the requirements of the dual positions.
Clean operation
"I've never had to call in the association for any kind of problem," Cerny said of running a clean operation.
Her duties range from prompt dues collection from members to compliance and proper procedure on her part in filing reports.
"They're wonderful women and it's a wonderful league," said Cerny, whose excellence was rewarded last October when she was chosen "Secretary of the Year" by the Youngstown Women's Association.
"It was never a job, but a labor of love," she said of her diligence.
The St. Brendan League president is Geraldine Perrine and vice-president is Gloria Tiberio.
As a bowler, Cerny has been with the St. Brendan Women for 31 years. Fran was also an officer in two other leagues at Wedgewood and she's been bowling for 42 years total.
One practice that sets Cerny apart is her signature season-ending goodwill gesture.
"On the last week of the season, I submit the scores of women who never get their name in the newspaper. I've done that all 30 years."
Cerny reiterated that she's not yet ready to step down from her double roles, but she isn't sure she'd have an option.
"The women tell me they won't let me go. They don't even have a nominating committee."
Never too late
After 18 years, Ed Zitnik got his second 300.
His first came at Bell-Wick Bowl in June, 1988 and his latest was April 3 in the Tuesday Nite Men's Classic at Wedgewood, where the house proprietor finished after midnight.
"We were the last pair on the lanes and finished about 12:20 a.m.," Zitnik said of his Bell-Wick Bowl team which was competing against Zinz Construction.
"We were tired and it was hard to stay awake," Zitnik said. "At that point, we were giddy," he said of trying to complete his final game of the season.
"I bowled a 300 and we still lost the game. I needed 392 to win."
Belchyk, Gallery 300s
John Calo and Bob Eckenrode Jr. had 300s in Max Belchyk Classic at Holiday April 5, when Calo's game led to a night-high 825 series. Ray Grow registered 299.

Joe Nuzzo and Chuck Fagan also had 300s in Shooting Gallery at Holiday. The pair finished with SG's top two sets that night: Nuzzo 793; Fagan 788.
Julie Tufaro's 300-740 led Window World/Casper Welding at Amron April 10. Tufaro's other games were 237 and 203. Tammy Haefke's 268-716 led Thursday Night Matchplay at Amron April 12.
Rynette Taylor's 279-704 paced Wednesday Nite Ladies at Wedgewood April 11.
