New Castle man charged in woman's death

NEW CASTLE, PA. — A city man was charged with criminal homicide today in the death of a woman whose body was found near the Lawrence Career and Technical Center in March.

Gaylord Spell, 44, of East Long Avenue, was arraigned in the slaying of Sueann Louise Brest, 40, of East Reynolds Street. Brest’s nude body was found by students and employees of the technical center in Shenango Township on March 1.

Pennsylvania State Police said Brest died from multiple blunt force trauma wounds, but they gave no other details about the case.

Spell is being held in Lawrence County jail without bond.
