Youngstown man wins 1M in Ohio Lottery game

Taxes on the winnings amount to more than 30 percent.
CLEVELAND -- The winner of 1 million in an Ohio Lottery game is Brian R. Broll of Youngstown.
The Ohio Lottery Commission said Wednesday that Broll, who bought a 20 Raffle to Riches ticket at Giant Eagle on East Market Street in Howland, was one five winners drawn in the game Monday.
Broll will receive 690,000 after state and federal taxes, the commission said.
The other winning tickets were sold in Lebanon, Brookville, Akron and Zanesville.
Broll could not be reached to comment.
100,000 winner
A Mahoning County resident came close to winning a million dollars. But maybe Margaret N. Snead of Austintown doesn't mind since she still won 100,000 in the Ohio Lottery's second Raffle to Riches drawing. She filed a claim in the Youngstown regional office Tuesday.
After mandatory federal and state taxes, totaling 31 percent, Snead will receive a check for 69,000.
She bought the winning ticket from Santisi' s IGA, 4477 Mahoning Avenue in Austintown, where she works. The odds of winning a 100,000 prize in the Raffle to Riches game are 1 in 125,000. There were five 100,000 prizes, and Snead is the first to claim a 100,000 prize.
Snead said she watched the drawing on TV.
"I looked and I said, 'That looks like my numbers; it really looks like my numbers!'" she said.
Her husband, Walter, wasn't as easy to convince. As she was screaming and jumping up and down, he insisted he would believe it when he saw the money in his hand, she said.
Snead said the family will use the money to pay some bills and will help her son get his car fixed.
She also said they are looking forward to having a nice vacation.
