Something new, an inside view
Every Vindicator endorsement in a local election is based in part on an interview of the candidates by Vindicator editorial writers and reporters. (The reporters participate in the interview, bringing their insights to the race, but do not vote on the endorsements).
Now, Vindicator readers will be able to watch videotape of some of those endorsement interviews on Vindy.com. The first of those interviews to be taped were of candidates in the Girard mayoral race.
You can read the editorial above, and watch the interviews of Girard Mayor James Melfi, who is seeking re-election, and Girard Councilman Dan Moadus, who is challenging him in the May 8 primary for the Democratic Party nomination. A third candidate, Councilman Louis Adovasio did not respond to a request for an interview.
The interviews took place April 10 and each took about a half hour.
We anticipate taping more interviews for our November general election endorsements and in years to come.
