Salem board seeks its next superintendent
SALEM -- The Salem Board of Education will work with the Columbiana County Education Service Center to replace Superintendent Stephen Larcomb.
Larcomb said Wednesday he will be departing by July 31 to become the superintendent at the Pleasant Local School District in Marion County, Ohio.
Larcomb is from Marion and will be returning to where two of his grown sons and their families reside.
He expects to spend some time in Marion in June and July.
The only person in the district with a superintendent's certification is Dennis Niederhiser, the principal at Buckeye Elementary. The certification is similar to master's degree.
Larcomb sad Niederhiser has both the credentials and the experience to be the superintendent.
Larcomb suggested the board spend up to 10,000 for a search that often highlights the strengths of the in-district candidate.
The board voted to spend up to 1,000 through the county board.
