Notebook: Ohio State vs. Texas
Streaks snapped: Ohio State stopped a few Texas streaks. The Longhorns had won 16 games in a row at home, which was the second-longest streak in the country. Texas had won 13 straight games over ranked teams and had scored at least 40 points in 12 consecutive games.
Quote of the night: Texas coach Mack Brown on the high risk-reward factor of playing a highly-ranked opponent as a non-conference game: "I thought it was really smart last year and really stupid this year."
Tressel's mark: Ohio State has improved 39-4 under coach Jim Tressel when the Buckeyes scored 24 or more points.
Field position king: A.J. Trapasso's punting average of 50.8 yards was the third-best single-game mark in OSU history. Texas coach Mack Brown said Trapasso's punting was one of the keys to the game. "His punting kept us in a long field the entire game," said Brown.
Youngstown connection: Julias Livas of Youngstown was a member of the Big Ten officiating crew that worked the game. Livas was the line judge. Livas made a good call early in the game when Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith threw a pass out of bounds while still in the pocket. Referee Bill LeMonnier wasn't going to make the call, but Livas correctly huddled with him. Youngstown State graduate Bob Davie served as one of the ABC analysts on the national telecast. And, the coach of the Buckeyes spent a few years in the Valley.
Campbell statue dedicated: The University of Texas used the occasion of Saturday's game to unveil a statue of Heisman Trophy winner Earl Campbell. The statue is located outside one corner of Darrell Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Ohio State's two-time Heisman winner Archie Griffin took part in the ceremony.
Postseason hopes: Representatives from all four BCS bowls -- the Fiesta, Rose, Sugar and Orange -- were in attendance at Saturday's game, as well as the Holiday and Gator Bowls.
LeBron in the house: Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James was on the Ohio State sideline. He received a pass courtesy of the Ohio State sports information office.
