Boardman boys, Mooney girls win

EAST PALESTINE -- The Boardman High boys and Mooney girls defended titles at the East Palestine Rotary Invitational cross country meet Saturday at East Palestine City Park.
Twin brothers Rick and Jake Lape both ran the 5,000-meter run in 17 minutes, 5 seconds as they finished 1-2 to lead the Spartans, who won the crown with 25 points. Adam Haushalter of Boardman was third with 17:33 and teammate Seth Westfall place fourth in 17:53.
The Mooney girls edged East Palestine 63-66, but Lauren Agnew of Boardman, in defending her title, set a Rotary Invitational record in 19:50, beating the old mark of 20:42 set by Brittany Durkin of Boardman in 2003.
Sophomore Christian Oles of Mooney placed second (20:19). East Palestine's Elizabeth Kelvington (21:56), Leighann Kelvington (22:12) and Sam Kennedy (22:15) finished fifth, seventh and eight respectively.

CHAMPION -- Jon Francis (18:10), Joshua Palmer (18:17) and Scott Batcho (19:04) who finished third, fourth and 15th, led the Rams to the team title with 54 points. Chagrin Falls was second with 57.
Katie Stancik was first (19:35) as Chagrin Falls took three of the top four spots in taking the girls title with 35 points. South Range's Kayla Whitmer was second (19:46).
