South Range keeps rolling, 47-6



Springfield, Leetonia and Lisbon also posted big victories.
NEWTON FALLS -- David Rach scored on runs of 18 and 17 yards to lead the South Range High football team to a 47-6 win over Newton Falls on Friday.
Steve Bensinger took over from there and rushed for 121 yards on 13 carries, which included TD runs of 7, 11 and 9 yards for the Raiders (3-0).
The Raiders also intercepted four passes with Josh Less returning two of them for 15 yards.
South Range gained 364 yards on 45 rushes and sophomore Jack Dawson completed 6-of-9 passes for 90.
Newton Falls (0-3) rushed 28 times for 65 yards and completed 4-of-20 passes for 54.
Springfield 39,Lowellville 14
LOWELLVILLE -- Springfield quarterback Nate Schuler completed 10 of 14 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns and added 47 yards on six carries with a touchdown for the Tigers (2-1).
Wide receiver Corey Cunningham caught eight passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Jarrod Lewis had seven carries for 51 yards and a touchdown. Springfield finished with 150 yards on the ground. John Zubick added a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Jon Calderone carried 23 times for 127 yards and had two catches for 54 yards and a touchdown for Lowellville (0-3), which finished with 181 yards rushing on 40 carries. Quarterback Joe DePasquale completed 6 of 9 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown.
Lisbon 41, Wellsville 12
LISBON -- Dana Rose turned in an outstanding performance as he rushed for 178 yards on 23 carries, which included touchdown runs of 7, 43, 10, 1 and 4 yards for Lisbon (3-0).
The Blue Devils rushed 35 times for 306 yards and were 2-of-5 passing for 14.
The Tigers (2-1, 0-1) rushed for 160 yards and passed for 20.
Jackson-Milton 34, East Palestine 15
EAST PALESTINE -- A 20-point third quarter overcame a 15-8 halftime deficit for Jackson-Milton (1-2), which rolled up 327 yards.
Senior Nick MacClarren ran 11 times for 95 yards, including two touchdowns covering 5 yards and 1 yard. MacClarren also caught a 25-yard scoring strike from Matt Shields. MacClarren had three catches for 51 yards. He is the Bluejays' running quarterback.
Shields, J-M's passing quarterback, completed 3 of 8 passes for 51 yards.
Wilbur Wilson scored on runs of 46 and 19 yards and the 5-8, 165 freshman finished with 98 yards on 12 carries.
For East Palestine, Tom Powers ran for two touchdowns and kicked an 18-yard field goal for all of his team's points. Gary Sensanbaugher had 10 carries for 94 yards, while George Smith completed 7 of 16 passes for 98 yards. J.C. Bollinger was Palestine's top receiver with 54 yards.
Leetonia 41,Mathews 0
LEETONIA -- Jake Kruegel and Jon Williams combined for 266 yards rushing and six touchdowns to lead the Bears (1-2).
Kruegel rushed for 160 yards on 12 carries (averaging 13.3 yards per carry). He scored on runs of 20 and 86 yards. He also had an interception.
Williams scored the other four touchdowns, the longest covering 68 yards, and had 106 yards on just six carries.
Corey Rausenbauch also had an interception and Kaid Todd recovered a fumble.
Leetonia outgained Mathews (1-2) 353-70 on the ground and 371-99 in total yards.
The Mustangs' Brent Jackson rushed for 43 yards and Phil Ciprian had an interception.
Southern 25,Bridgeport 6
SALINEVILLE -- Nick Puckett rushed 21 times for 208 yards and three touchdowns for Southern (3-0).
Bryant Nestor added 71 yards on 12 carries with a TD and Richard Baker had 50 yards on 11 carries for the Indians, who outgained Bridgeport 335-84 on the ground. Bridgeport passed for 211 yards.
