AGNES MARTINKO Background

Education: Agnes Martinko earned a bachelor's degree at Youngstown State University, master's degree at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and doctor of philosophy degree in educational psychology from Union Institute in Cincinnati.
Work experience: After teaching at St. Nicholas School in Struthers and Roosevelt School in Hubbard for a short time, Martinko became a counselor at the American Embassy School in Bonn, Germany, in 1960. In 1969, she returned to the United States and took a position as a policy planner and researcher with Pennsylvania Department of Education. After taking an early retirement, she returned to the Mahoning Valley in 1991 and taught psychology from 1991-96 at YSU.
Publications: A biographical memoir, "Leaving the Farm," is included in the Pig Iron Press bicentennial publication, "Young's Town." Martinko, a member of St. Edward Church in Youngstown, also contributes columns to the Religion page of The Vindicator.
