Man gets 40 years for shooting into house

SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) -- A man who fired a shot into a home that nearly hit a sleeping police officer and his wife was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Shaunsay Gowdy was convicted last week of shooting into the home of Dan Lewis, a member of the Erie County Drug Task Force who had investigated Gowdy before the January shooting.
Erie County Judge Beverly McGookey said before the sentencing Wednesday that Gowdy had run out of second chances. Gowdy, 26, already is serving a 22-year sentence for dealing crack cocaine.
Gowdy's attorney told the judge that he was aiming at Lewis' vehicle outside and not the house.
The Lewis family moved out of their house after the shooting and their young son and daughter are afraid for their father, according to a statement read by Laura Alkire, an assistant Erie County prosecutor.
