The park's manager said the owners are considering options.
GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE -- Erie-view Park, a small amusement park in this Lake Erie resort village, will cease operations after this weekend. The park's last day open to the public is Saturday.
"This will be our last summer for the rides, as we have decided to redevelop this lakefront parcel," said park general manager Don Woodward. "Like many lakefront areas, it has become a case of the land becoming more suitable for other uses.
"There has been much speculation and rumors as to what my family plans to do with the land," Woodward continued. " We do not intend to sell the land. While we cannot yet discuss the specifics, we will not be constructing condominiums or other residential uses.
"With over 700 feet of prime Lake Erie frontage in the very center of Geneva-on-the-Lake, we intend to develop something that is resort and tourism oriented. We are looking at diverse uses for the area, and are currently involved in a feasibility study," said Woodward. "We hope to be able to begin construction in the spring, with a January project announcement."
History
Woodward is one of the three family members who own and operate Erieview Park. Started in 1945 by Woodward's grandfather, E.M. "Pop" Pera, Woodward's sisters, Martha Fenlason and Donna Colby, also are involved in the operation. Originally founded as a children's park with just two rides, the park has nine adult and nine children's rides on an eight-acre parcel.
The final day that Erieview Park will be open to the public is Saturday. A private group is scheduled in the park Sunday.
