Conference for women
The 2006 Ohio Women Veterans Conference is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 28 at AMVETS Post 2256, 818 Tarlton Road, Circleville. The goal of the conference, which features guest speakers and workshops, is to provide women veterans with information regarding benefits and opportunities to which they may be entitled. The event is sponsored by the Ohio Governor's Advisory Committee for Women Veterans, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the VA Healthcare System of Ohio. To register, call (614) 752-8941.
Seeking airborne troopers
The 82nd Airborne Division Association, Gen. Matthew B. Ridgway Chapter, Dayton, is seeking all airborne troopers who have served in the military over the past 65 years. "We want to record their deeds and reunite them with their comrades. Younger soldiers are also important, as they will carry on the ideals which these veterans fought and died for," said Shirley R. Gossett, national membership chairperson. Activities across the nation include All Ohio Days, Cincinnati, Oct. 6-7; Southern California Airborne Days, Cypress, Calif., Oct. 6-8; Wolverine 25th Anniversary, Romulus, Mich., Nov. 3-6; Veterans Day Activities, Washington, D.C., Nov. 8-11; and the 61st National Convention, Harrisburg, Pa., Aug. 13-19, 2007. Woman of the Year Award
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was presented the 2006 American Legion Auxiliary Woman of the Year Award on Aug. 29 during the organization's national convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. The award recognizes contributions in advancing the quality of life for others and making a positive impact on the men and women of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families.
DEPLOYED
Mobilized, activated
Army National Guard Spec. Stanley R. Piecuch has been mobilized and activated for a future deployment to an undisclosed overseas location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Piecuch, a military policeman assigned to the 213th Air Defense Artillery, Spring City, Pa., is the son of Stanley and Michelle Piecuch of Ellwood City, Pa. He is a 2003 graduate of Lincoln High School, Ellwood City.

Army Reserve Pfc. Terry E. Minteer Jr. has graduated from the Light-Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Jackson, S.C. Minteer, the son of Terry E. and Deb Minteer of Jackson Center, Pa., is a 2005 graduate of Lakeview High School, Stoneboro, Pa.
