Tributes made to Pittsburgh mayor who died

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- City workers on Saturday prepared for the body of Mayor Bob O'Connor to lie in state, a day after the city leader died from a rare form of brain cancer at age 61.
O'Connor's body will lie in state at the City-County Building downtown today through Monday night. The funeral will be Thursday.
O'Connor's family and staff issued a statement Saturday saying funeral arrangements would be released soon.
They otherwise declined comment as various groups and individuals paid tribute to the mayor.
Residents tied ribbons to trees and light posts in the neighborhood where O'Connor lived for more than four decades.
The Allegheny County Labor Council announced that marchers in the city's Labor Day parade on Monday will honor O'Connor by stopping for a moment of silence in front of the City-County Building.
Meanwhile, city residents remembered O'Connor fondly, especially in the idyllic Squirrel Hill section where he lived.
Jim Headley, the manager of the coffeehouse where O'Connor took his grandchildren on Saturdays, remembered the late mayor as a popular customer even before he was elected.
"He was just an outgoing guy, period," Headley said.
"Anywhere, he'll find a friend and make a friend."
