Official: OSHA has no records of inspections

AUSTINTOWN -- An Occupational Health and Safety Administration spokesman says he found no records that a building being used as a steel warehouse where one worker died was inspected by OSHA.
Rob Medlock said Friday from his Cleveland office that buildings are generally inspected for workers' safety, not for the structural condition of the building itself.
"We wouldn't go in looking at the integrity of the building. That very seldom comes into a normal inspection," he said. "This was a concrete floor that came down -- that's very rare. Obviously there are capacity issues."
He said the investigation will determine the load limit of the floor at Penn Ohio Logistics and how much steel was on it when it gave way. He said the investigation will take several weeks.
Penn Ohio Logistics, which has been operating only a few months at its present location, is part of an industrial complex on Hendricks Road, the former Youngstown Steel Door.
Two Penn Ohio employees were injured Tuesday afternoon when stacked steel fell through the concrete floor.
Raymond J. Queen, 39, of Warren, died early Thursday from his injuries.
Lawrence Boatwright, 46, remained in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
