Man sent to prison for store robberies

A Sharon man was sentenced for giving drugs and alcohol to teenage girls.
MERCER, Pa. -- A man who robbed gas stations in Hermitage and Farrell last year was sentenced to prison in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.
Judge Thomas Dobson sentenced Jesse Mathis, 42, of Park Avenue, Farrell, last week to two to four years in prison followed by probation for two felony counts of robbery. He also was ordered to make restitution.
Court documents state that Mathis went into a McQuaid's Sunoco station, 1050 Division St., Farrell, on Feb. 1, 2005, and demanded money. He acted as if he had a gun under his clothing, announced, "This is a stickup," and got $395 in cash before fleeing.
Less than a week later, on Feb. 7, 2005, he went to McQuaid's Sunoco at 1726 Valley View Road, Hermitage, held an unknown object that appeared to be a gun under his clothing and demanded money from the clerk, threatening to hurt her and a customer if she did not comply. He got $124 from that store.
Others sentenced
Several others also were sentenced:
Henry Bruce, 27, of Hamilton Avenue, Farrell, was placed on two years' probation and ordered to make restitution for possession with intent to deliver, a felony. Bruce sold cocaine to an undercover police officer on Hamilton Avenue on April 15, 2005, court documents state.
Gary Hailey, Jr., 29, of Orchard Street, Sharon, was sentenced to 15 months to three years in the State Correctional Facility followed by one year's probation for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a felony, and possession of a controlled substance, corruption of minors and selling or furnishing alcohol to minors, all misdemeanors. Court documents state that in November 2003 or January 2004, Hailey sold cocaine to a confidential informant on First Avenue in Sharon. Then, on April 11, 2004, at a West Main Street, Sharpsville, address, he furnished marijuana to a 14-year-old girl and also had seven 40-ounce bottles of malt liquor that he intended to give to two teenage girls.
Leah Jackson, 23, of North Darby Road, Hermitage, was placed on 15 months' probation for criminal attempt/theft by unlawful taking, a misdemeanor. Court documents state Jackson and another woman tried to cash an $854 check that had been forged and drawn on a closed account of Culvert Construction at two banks in Sharon on Nov. 28, 2005.
Joseph Mortimer Jr., 25, of Superior Street, Hermitage, was placed on 30 months' probation for having firearms without a license, a misdemeanor. Mortimer was found May 27, 2004, with two rifles and a revolver.
Edward Wooten, 35, of Prospect Street, Sharon, was sentenced to one to three years in the State Correctional Facility and ordered to make restitution for theft by unlawful taking, a misdemeanor. Court documents state that on March 13, 2004, he and another man entered the residence of a man on East Silver Street, Sharon, and took a cell phone and sweat pants.
