For free trees, join foundation

Saturday, September 2, 2006

Ten free trees will be given to each person from Ohio who joins The National Arbor Day Foundation during September 2006.
The free trees are part of the nonprofit foundation's Trees for America campaign.
The 10 trees are the American Redbud, White Pine, Sugar Maple, White Flowering Dogwood, Pin Oak, Red Maple, Birch, Silver Maple, Red Oak and Colorado Blue Spruce.
"These trees were selected to provide benefits every season of the year in Ohio; lovely spring flowers, cool summer shade, spectacular autumn colors and winter berries and nesting sites for songbirds," John Rosenow, the foundation's president, said.
"They will add to the proud heritage of Ohio's 239 Tree City USA communities. For almost three decades, Tree City USA has supported community forestry across Ohio, and planting these trees will make this tree-planting tradition even stronger," he added.
The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting between Oct. 15 and Dec. 10 with planting instructions enclosed. The 6- to 12-inch trees are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced for free.
Members also receive a subscription to the foundation's bimonthly publication, Arbor Day, and "The Tree Book" with information about tree planting and care.
To receive the trees, sent a $10 membership contribution to Ten Trees, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave., Nebraska City, NE 68410, by Sept. 30, 2006, or join online at www.arborday.org.
