Grand jury indicts man in fatal shooting

The shooting victim twice identified his assailant before he died, police said.

YOUNGSTOWN -- A murder suspect, two arson suspects and a man charged with his sixth and seventh driving-under-the-influence offenses were among those indicted Thursday by a Mahoning County grand jury.
Gregory McGee, 22, of Selma Avenue, was indicted in the shooting death of Charles Bush, 21, of Lora Avenue, last Friday in a house on Saranac Avenue.
Before he died, Bush twice identified McGee as the man who shot him, police said.
The murder charge against McGee carries a penalty range of 15 years to life in prison and has a firearm specification attached to it. McGee also was indicted on a charge of having a weapon while under disability, which means a prior conviction prohibited possession of a firearm.
The grand jury indicted Arturo Novoa IV, 20, of Cooper Street, on aggravated arson and intimidation charges. Responding to a report of BBs being shot at a house, police said they saw a man run across Cooper Street with a flaming object and throw it onto a porch July 28.
Captured suspect
While the homeowner put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher, police said they saw the man who threw the object run to a nearby house. Police said they went to that house and saw Novoa crawling out of a basement window. The intimidation charge pertains to an alleged episode involving a female victim June 25.
The grand jury indicted Robert R. Bennett Jr., 19, of East Myrtle Avenue, on three counts of arson in fires in vacant structures on Williamson Avenue in July.
The grand jury also indicted Scott R. Spiker, 40, of Summit Street, Salem, on two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, dating from May 19 and 21, both listed as fourth-degree felonies. Spiker has had five prior DUI convictions in Columbiana County since 1987, the indictment says.

Steven Willis, 36, of Whippoorwill, carrying concealed weapons and cocaine possession.
Fernando Lopez Jr., 23, of South Pearl Street, assault.
Miranda Joyce, 26, of West Liberty Street, Girard, cocaine possession.
Karl Adams, 42, of Sanderson Avenue, Campbell, aggravated assault.
Maurice Christian, 19, of East Lucius Avenue, burglary.
Eugene Matthews, 21, of Trumbull Court, Liberty, and Pierre Kennedy, 24, of Seneca Street, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary with firearm specifications.
John Real, 35, of Medford Avenue, cocaine possession.
Allen J. Collet, 18, of South Hubbard Road, Lowellville, theft and two counts of breaking and entering.
Karl Stennett, 28, of Helena Avenue, domestic violence and violation of a protection order.
Joshua Turner, 25, of Mahoning County jail, menacing by stalking.
Michael H. Tomlin, 23, of Wellington Avenue, aggravated robbery with a firearm specification, being a felon in possession of a firearm and theft.
Penny Lynn Pratt, 32, of Hartzell Avenue, two counts each of forgery and receiving stolen property.
Eric D. Purnell, 35, of Detroit, Mich., two counts of possession of dangerous drugs with forfeiture specifications and two counts of tampering with records.
The grand jury also secretly indicted a Jane Doe for cocaine trafficking; two John Does for nonsupport of dependents; a John Doe for three counts of cocaine trafficking; a John Doe for two counts of drug possession; and a John Doe for cocaine possession with forfeiture specifications, cocaine trafficking and five counts of being a felon in possession of firearms.
