Ballot Issues Forum
BOARDMAN -- Boardman Council PTA is sponsoring a Ballot Issues Forum for Voters from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Boardman High School cafeteria. PTA legislation chairwoman Debbie Liptak will be the facilitator. She has invited pro and con speakers on all the ballot issues and will include a question-and-answer session. Schools Superintendent Frank Lazzeri will speak on the school district's bond issue.
Alumni Hall of Fame
WARREN -- The city school district is seeking nominees for Warren High School's Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. Nominations of graduates who have been out of school for at least 12 years can be made by filling out a form, which is available at the board of education offices, 261 Monroe St. N.W. The deadline for nominations is Nov. 13. The induction ceremony will be May 5.
Tourism dinner speaker
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Karen James, coordinator of Underground Railroad History for the Pennsylvania Historical & amp; Museum Commission, will be the guest speaker for this year's Lawrence County tourism dinner. The dinner is set for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Mill Street Grille, 11 South Mill St. A small business meeting will be conducted, the annual report given and new members elected to the tourism board. James is a noted author and guest lecturer. Her credentials include awards and recognition for "Safe Harbor: A Story of the Underground Railroad" from the American Library Association, Newspapers Association of America and the American Association for State and Local History. Leetonia brush pickup
LEETONIA -- The village will pick up brush for two final days, Wednesday and Thursday. This will be the last scheduled brush pickup until spring. Leaf pickup will start Nov. 6 with the leaf vacuum. Please do not mix leaves, brush and other material. The village will not pick up mixed piles. Bagged leaves will be picked up as work schedule permits.
Hilltown Bridge closing
HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- Hilltown Bridge in Mahoning Township will be closed Monday for replacement. The bridge is expected to reopen Sept. 1, 2007. Traffic detours will be on U.S. Route 224, and Pa. Routes 551 and 4006.
Police get grant
AUSTINTOWN -- The township police department has been awarded a $25,000 High Visibility Enforcement Overtime grant that runs through Sept. 30, 2007, said Lt. Bryan Kloss. The grant will pay the overtime of police patrolling specific roadways where there have been numerous accidents. The department's goal is to reduce accidents by being visible. Police also will aggressively enforce traffic laws and show zero tolerance for safety belt violations. The grant is from the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
Vigil for victims
WARREN -- The 8th annual Candlelight Vigil to remember victims of suicide will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 18 at St. Pius X Church, 1401 Moncrest Drive N.W.
