New date to be set for sexual-battery trial

Wednesday, October 25, 2006

YOUNGSTOWN -- Jury selection came to a halt Tuesday in the sexual-battery trial of a former Mahoning County deputy sheriff charged with having a female inmate engage in sexual activity with him in the county jail in November 2002.
The trial of Mark Dixon, 33, of Youngstown, was stopped because a newly discovered report related to the case surfaced from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, and prosecutors and defense lawyers needed time to examine it, explained Dawn Krueger, assistant county prosecutor.
A status conference is set for Nov. 6, at which time a new trial date, probably early in December, will be set, Krueger said. A new jury will then be selected for the trial in the courtroom of Judge John M. Durkin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, she added.
